Frequently Asked Questions about Open Appraisal Day:
Q: What is Open Appraisal Day?
A: Every first and third Wednesday of the month, our appraisers make themselves available for verbal estimates. You can schedule an appointment or walk-in for free opinions on up to five items.
Q: What items are you looking for?
A: We'll look at anything! We are particularly interested in Coins, Jewelry, Sterling, Fine Art, Antique Furniture, and Firearms and Militaria
Q: Do I need an appointment?
A: Appointments aren't required, but they are highly recommended. Simply call our offices to set one up, and avoid waiting in line!
Q: How many items can I bring?
A:As a courtesy to our other guests, we ask that you limit the number of items you bring to Open Appraisal Day to five or fewer.
Q: What if I have more than five items?
A: No problem! Give us a call to discuss your options. You may want to bring in photos of your items, or a sample of a larger collection.
Q: How long should I expect to be there?
A: The wait time for walk-ins is typically 45 minutes to an hour, although on particularly busy days the wait may be longer. Most clients meet with an appraiser for about 15 minutes, although some consultations can take up to half an hour.
Q: Can I get a written appraisal during Open Appraisal Day?
A: Open Appraisal Day is for verbal estimates only, but you are free to take notes while meeting with the appraiser. If you need a formal written appraisal for insurance or estate purposes, please call our offices to discuss your options.
Q: Can I leave things with you to sell at auction?
A: Yes! If we determine that your items are a good candidate for auctions, you can consign them and leave them with us to be stored in our warehouse until they are sold at auction. The appraiser will be able to give you an idea of how long it will be until your items are sold.
Q: I've consigned before. Can I just drop things off?
A: While we accept consignments on Open Appraisal Day, it isn't a good day for us to handle larger drop-offs. Give our offices a call to schedule a separate appointment.
Q: I don't want to sell my things. Will you still tell me what they're worth?
A: Absolutely! There is no obligation to sell or consign your items during Open Appraisal Day.
Q: I don't care what my items are worth, I just want to sell them!
A: If you have five or fewer items, then Open Appraisal Day is a great way to do that. We can also review photos of more items with you and let you know whether they are items we could take in. You can also email photos or lists ahead of time to be reviewed rather than coming into the offices in person.
Q: What if my items are too large to bring in?
A: We can give you a general appraisal from photographs. No need to print them out--our appraisers are happy to look at the pictures directly on your cell phone or digital camera. Try to make the photos as clear as possible, and make sure to include any details (signatures, inlay, etc) that you want our appraisers to notice.
Q: Where are you?
A: Our offices are located at 1500 Paxton Street in Harrisburg. We are right off the 13th Street exit from 83 Northbound, and the 17th Street exit from 83 Southbound. You can view maps and directions here.
Q: Corrider? Cor-dee-er?
Q: My question isn't on this list!
A: Give us a call anytime. We're in the office Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM
