Carson Long Military Academy memorabilia and school equipment will be sold at auction on April 26 and 27, 2019 by Cordier Auctions in New Bloomfield, PA.
Cordier Auctions will hold the auction on location at 200 North Carlisle Street, New Bloomfield, on Friday April 26 and Saturday April 27 starting at 10am EST each day. The auction will include over 1,000 lots from 8 buildings on 53 acres. Highlights of the auction include a WWII 80 mm Howitzer and Carson Long memorabilia including 4 rare William Randolph Hearst marksmanship award plaques from the 1930’s and 1940’s.
A collection of autographed books from the school library by noted Perry County author Roy Chandler will be on offer including many of his early titles such as “A History of Perry County Guns and Gunsmiths”. Other notable pieces specific to the school include 3 taxidermy mounts gifted to academy founder T.K. Long from his friend Theodore Roosevelt, and a unique “Honor” monument depicting a sworn in a stone. A large cast bronze plaque of the Gettysburg Address will also be sold along with antiques, Persian rugs, paintings and prints from the administration building.
School equipment and supplies will also be included in the auction. Those offerings include everything one would expect at a boarding school with a very active academic and sports program. Look for antique and modern musical instruments including two grand pianos and a Steinway upright as well as a large assortment of band instruments.
Other educational equipment and supplies include chemistry and natural science laboratories, microscopes, Smart Tech boards, conference tables, office furniture, 10 large flat screen TVs, and telescopes including a large deep space model. Sports equipment to include uniforms for all disciplines, archery, fencing, football, baseball and basketball. The school also has a large exercise gym with about 40 pieces of commercial grade equipment. A maintenance shop full of hand and power tools of all sorts will also be included. The sale of the real estate is being handled by Wolfe & Co. Realtors of Carlisle, PA. A portion of the Carson Long memorabilia, documents and photographs have also been donated to 2 local Perry County historical societies.
Carson Long Military Academy was the oldest continually operating military academy in the United States up to its closing in 2018. The maximum student enrollment was approximately 200 students. International students from all over the world attended Carson Long and many of its alumni went on to serve with distinction in the Armed Forces.
